Tourism is the new industry which is fastest growing and most prospectiveamong global economy, and which has become the largest industry since1993all overthe world. The vast and complex geographical environment of Tibet, was given aunique natural ecology and social historical evolution, creating an area of blessingnatural and cultural tourism resources, and is becoming the most desirable worldwidedestination and hotspot for travel enthusiasts. Due to the unique character of Tibet’senvironment and the tourism market, the tourism itself has a great sensitivity. Theopening of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Qinghai-Tibet Railway makes it moreconvenience to access Tibet, especially for tourists. Despite that, travel security issueshave attended to be the challenges that travel agencies and tourists must have to befaced with. Firstly, the special landscape and climate of Tibetan plateau may causemountain sickness, which influence visitors’ health and safety a lot. As a matter offact, it cannot be ignored. Second, Geographical and geological disasters caused byclimatic factors arouse potential safety hazards during travelling and trips.Accordingly, one of the most important factors that affect the visitors’ health andsafety is the mountain sickness and geological hazards caused by extreme climaticand geographical environment. In order to reflect the impact of inner factor related to visitors’health, this paperhas gained meteorological data of some regions based on the pre-survey data of theprogram--“The key technology research and application for Tibet tourism crisisprevention and emergency rescue” and site investigation, as well as the installation ofobservations. Moreover, it has also described how to establish a plateau tourismsecurity index system, and how to acquire the distribution of plateau security index inspace, aiming to provide some references of security index for tourists and related department in this area, and dedicate to the further research.Based on the analysis of how the external environmental factors affect health andsecurity during tourism and the incidence of individual susceptibility on Tibetanplateau, this paper has established a plateau tourism security index system; got theindex statistics data of the Tibetan plateau to the safety of tourists by the data acquiredfrom Tibet plateau meteorological stations, Tibet Information Institute and researchgroup’s installation of observations, and indicators’raster image data using by GIS onthe basis of DEM digital elevation data. Then applied on the example of QomolangmaNational Nature Reserve; Judged each index’s importance according to experts’opinion and expedition members’ inspection, and used the analytic hierarchy processto determine each index’s weight; Classified the index in the range of QomolangmaNational Nature Reserve ‘s benchmark using each inner’s raster data and reference tothe previous research of scientists; used image processing and GIS technology tocomplete the integration of each indicator, and provided theoretical support forfurther study of Tibet’s Tourism Crisis Prevention.
