Kashin-Beck disease is a kind of endemic osteoarthritis disease, with highincidence ratio and mutation ratio, more than fifty percent of the sick are incapacitatedor lose the self-care ability, which is severely restricting the development of theeconomy and the improving of people’s living standard in the KBD area. RangtangCounty is one of the most serious areas of KBD in both Sichuan and China. ForRangtang County to study the relationship between it and the KBD from the view ofgeological environment, will be some practical significance in enriching theresearches on pathogenic factor of KBD as well as carrying out integrated preventionand control work for KBD.In this article, we work on the landforms, formation lithology, soil conditions,drinking water sources and other factors of geological environment in RangtangCounty, and carry out field geological environment survey, hydrogeology survey andsampling etc, in addition we make tests on constituents in rocks, soils, drinking watersources and other samples, as well as test on content of part elements in theexperimental areas. We obtained much first-hand information and data.According to the situation of the disease area, analysis and researches oncharacters of geological environments are carried out. And combined with diseasesituation,we made statistics and analysis on topography、 l ithology、 soil、water andother related data. Preliminarily studied the relationship between all geologicalenvironment factors and KBD, View from geological environments we providescientific basis for the prevention and cure of KBD in Rang tang County.(1)In Rangtang County,the prevalence of KBD in plateau low mountains and plateau hilly lands is relatively high, while in high mountain canyon lands, it is lower.From a viewpoint of river basins, the prevalence on Zequ River Basin is higher thanDuke River Basin.(2)As Rangtang County mainly belongs to triassic sandstone and slates,according to different lithology, in the county, lithology is mainly composed ofsandstone and slate, which region is mainly sandstone, its situation is not serious,and as the decrease of slate, the situation has the trend of reduce.(3) For Rangtang County’s three main soils,first, villages with brown and dullbrown soils distributed are the most serious, the second is meadow soil distributed,while regions with cinnamon soil, Its situation is mild. However the contents of soilhumus in these soils are higher than non-disease area.(4) What water source residents in Rangtang County drink mainly depend on isriver water, stream and ditch water, shallow water and spring water, Generallyspeaking mineralization of different water type of Zequ River Basin and Duke RiverBasin is lower, mainly focus bellow150mg/l range, among them shallow water isslightly higher than the remaining three kinds of water sources; overall, mineralizationin surface water is lower than that in shallow groundwater, humus acid in differentwater sources in the area is mostly higher than2mg/l; drinking water in the areagenerally has the characteristics of low mineralization and high humus acid.(5)By the contrast of water quality data in ward and non-endemic area inRangtang County, we can see among the chemical elements in Rangtang Ward, exceptthe PH value, average value of other elements content is lower than that innon-endemic areas.(6)“Hummocky plateau, mountain plateau, low mountain plateau landscape inthe source of large river area—mainly black and gray Sandy slate of Malcolmstratigraphic partition—soil distribution of cinnamon, brown soil, dark brown soil,meadow soil and others—drinking water of low mineralization and high humus acid”,these geological environment condition and drinking condition is the condition ofpathogenic geological environment. We can change the water or off-site relocation orothers as one of the KBD prevention and control ways.
