Objective: Before and after radiotherapy, to investigate the relation of TCM syn-drome differentiation, cytokines and clinical features in patients with esophageal carci-noma. Methods: The classification of TCM syndromes was carried out in80esophagealcarcinoma patients before and after radiotherapy. The80patients’ serum levels of TNF-α,IL-6and IL-1were measured by method in ELISA Test and Electrochemiluminescenceimmunoassay. Results:(1)Before radiotherapy the syndromes of qi and phlegm stagnationwere27cases,33.75%; phlegm and blood stasis were34cases,42.5%; Yin deficiencywith noxious heat were15cases,18.75%; qi and yang deficiency were4cases,5.00%.However, after radiotherapy the syndromes of qi and phlegm stagnation decreased to5cases,6.25%; phlegm and blood stasis decreased to16cases,20.0%; the syndromes of Yindeficiency with noxious heat increased to45cases56.25%, qi and yang deficiency in-creased to14cases17.5%. Before and after radiotherapy TCM syndrome constitutes asignificant difference compared (P<0.05).(2)The levels of TNF-α were34.34±25.28pg/ml,which were remarkbaly higher than the levels of TNF-α after radiotherapy26.75±21.37pg/ml (P=0.012). The levels of IL-6were21.11±13.03pg/ml, which werealso remarkbaly higher than the levels of IL-6after radiotherapy17.34±13.02pg/ml(P=0.031). After radiotherapy the2kinds of levels in the Yin deficiency with noxious heatpatients were statistically different, but the others were not.(3)The syndromes of TCMafter radiotherapy were significant correlated with the levels of TNF-α. Meanwhile, thesyndromes of TCM after radiotherapy were also significant correlated with Clinical fea-tures, such as esophageal cancer differentiation, KPS scores, bone marrow suppressionindexing, short term effect. Conclusion: Radiotherapy makes patients with esophagealcarcinoma become to be Yin deficiency with noxious heat. Yin deficiency with noxious heat type after radiotherapy in patients with esophageal cancer from the excessive secre-tion of TNF-α, IL-6significantly curbed. After radiotherapy, changes in TCM syndromeswere related with cytokines TNF-α and clinical features of esophageal cancer and degreeof differentiation, KPS scores, bone marrow suppression as well as short-term effect onindexing.
