Objective:To implement tobacco control for initial treatment smear-positive TB patients who have been final diagnosed by Xinshao TB control institution, evaluation their intervention effecting. And to provide a scientific basis for TB control and tobacco control.Methods:Inquired and registered initial treatment smear-positive TB patients who have been final diagnosed by Xinshao TB control institution in the period from April1st to June30th,2008. Registered patients’ smoking general institution, awareness and attitude, habits, and then implemented tobacco control intervention. Follow-up the registration staff after six months by the tobacco control intervention, and registered their smoking institution again.Results:The study investigated106initial treatment smear-positive TB patients. Comparison between before and after the tobacco control intervention, smoking awareness rate of the TB patients (χ2=151.548, P=0.000), insisting on smoking rate (χ2=40.462, P=0.000), accepting rate on doctor’s advice to quit smoke (χ2=8.923, P=0.000) has statistical significance. After intervention, smoking awareness rate is100%, and insisting on smoking rate is87.5%, both higher than before, accepting rate on doctor’s advice to quit smoke is higher than before. But in the item whether the doctor is willing to advise family member not to smoke, comparison between before and after the intervention, has no statistical significance. The patients smoking institution by tobacco control intervention comparison between before and after has statistical significance (χ2=62.810, P=0.000), the same with smoking rate (χ2=49.892, P=0.000) which is lower after intervention than before. Comparing quitting smoking time and number of cigarettes smoked per day between before and after intervention, quitting time longer after than before, and average number of cigarettes smoked per day less than before, which has statistical significance.Conclusions:In Xinshao County, TB patients’ smoking harmful awareness rate has improved; adhere to the quitting smoking rate has increased; accepting rate on doctor’s advice to quit smoke has increased; smoking rate has declined after tobacco control intervention. The smoking time and smoking quantity before tobacco control is influencing factor of tobacco control effects. Initial treatment smear-positive patients should be intervened by tobacco control in order to achieve a better outcome of clinic treatment.
