Objective To explore the quality of life and its influencing factors in patients with deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremity (DVT) and to analyze the effects of individualized health education on life quality in the DVT patients. Methods One hundred and thirty cases with deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremity, which were admitted from January,2011to September,2011and consistent with the WHO’s "Lower Limb Vein Thrombus Disease Nomenclature and Diagnostic Criteria", were collected and randomly divided into the intervention group and the control group with65cases in each group. Patients in the intervention group were received one-to-one individualized health education by trained nurses in terms of4steps of assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation. For the patients in the intervention group instructions of10~30minutes were given at the day of admission, days before, in and after thrombolysis treatment, day of discharge, one week and one month after discharge respectively. Patients in control group received routine nursing care. General Information Sheet and Syndrome Quality of Life questionnaire (GQOLI-74) were administered for both groups at the time of admission and three months after the intervention.Finally56cases in the intervention group and56cases of the control group completed the study.A database were established and descriptive and inferential analyses were carried out with SPSS13.0according to the objective types of data. Quality of life scores were calculated in term of X±S. Measurement data of two groups were compared using t test, using ANOVA for data with homogeneity of variance and using Kruskal-Wallis H test for data without homogeneity variances. Count data were compared withχ2test. Data before and after intervention of both groups were compared using ANOVA for repeated measurement design data. P<0.05for the difference was statistically significant.Results1. On Quality of Life evaluation the total score is (54.12±5.49). In low to high order scores of four dimensions are respectively physical function (47.58±10.59), psychological function (55.35±7.86), social sustainment function (56.62±6.01), material life status (58.54±9.31).2. Most of the DVT patients in age, sex, nationality, occupation, education, income and other factors affected the total scores of GQOLI-74without statistical significance (P>0.05).3. There is no significant difference on age and quality of life between the two groups before intervention (P<0.05).4. To compare the difference of improvement on the quality of life between the two group, the total scores and all factors and dimensions were calculated before and after intervention and the discrepancy of the and ANOVA for repeated measurements was carriedout. The results showed significant differences on the total scores of quality of life and physical function, mental function, social sustainment function (P<0.05) and the improvements are more significantly in the case group. While material life status were compared with no statistical difference (P>0.05).Conclusion1.The quality of life patients with DVT belongs to medium level.2. The individualized health education can improve the quality of life of patients with DVT. Compared with the conventional health education, individualized health education can improve the quality of life patients with DVT.
