Objective:To investigate the status of cognitive functions and quality of life in the patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and explore effectiveness of cognitive intervention on cognitive functions and quality of life in the patients with MCI.Methods:The study was an intervention trial research design. In this study,100participants diagnosed with MCI from a community of Changsha City were randomly divided into experimental group and control group,50participants in each group. The control group only received rout education on MCI, and based on the control group, the experimental group received3months’cognitive intervention and the phone follow-up every two weeks ongoing3months were given to the experimental group after cognitive training. At baseline,3rd month after intervention, and3rd month after follow-up, all participants’data were measured by four instruments including Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Wechsler Memory Scale China Revised version(WMS-RC), Activities of Daily Living scale (ADL) and Chinese simplified questionnaire of World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF). A database was established using SPSS17.0for statistical analysis. Statistical description, Student’s t-test, Chi-square analysis, One-way ANOVA, Spearman rank correlation analysis, multiple linear stepwise regression analysis and repetitive measure ANOVA were used in the data analysis.Result:1. The designed cases was100, excluding13cases, the final effective cases was87, the control group is45cases and the experimental group is42cases.2. Baseline results showed that the mean score of MMSE was24.37±1.78; The mean scores of the four memory sub-scales of WMS-RC: picture recalls, word association, comprehensive memory and recite number were5.39±2.03,3.66±1.84,5.33±2.36,6.01±1.93, respectively, significantly lower than domestic norm (P<0.001); The mean scores of ADL, BADL, IADL were15.70±1.78,6.23±0.50、9.47±1.46, respectively; The mean scores of WHOQOL-BREF and every dimensionality, compared with the domestic norm, the QOL combined healthy, the physical, psychological and social scores were lower while the environmental scores were higher (P<0.001)3. The result of multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that the factors which influenced the MMSE score were age, level of education, reading, do housework and history of chronic disease.4. The correlation analysis showed that MMSE and the four memory sub-scales of WMS-RC had negative correlation with ADL, positive correlation with WHOQOL-BREF.5. The result of repeated measure ANOVA revealed that time main effect, intervention main effect and interaction between time and intervention had significant effect on the scores of MMSE, four memory sub-scales of WMS-RC and IADL (P<0.05). In the scores of WHOQOL-BREF and every dimensionality, the time main effects of the QOL combined healthy, physical, psychological and social were significant (P<0.05), the intervention main effects of the QOL combined healthy, psychological and social were significant (P<0.05). There were significant interactions between time and intervention factors on the QOL combined healthy, physical and psychological (P<0.05)Conclusion:1. Of the participants, the cognitive functions were normal on the whole, memory declined, instrumental activities of daily living dameged, the QOL had poorer than normal subjects.2. The factors which influenced the cognitive factions were age, level of education, reading, do housework and history of chronic disease.3. There was a positive correlation between cognitive function and QOL.4. Cognitive intervention could significantly improve cognitive functions and QOL of the MCI patients.
