Objective: To observe the clinical effects of routine acupuncture and routine pluswaist abdominal muscle training for treating Nonspecific Low Back Pain. The researchwill provide better rehabilitation program. Methods: Sixty nonspecific Low Back Pain patients, coincident with standards, wererandomly allocated to two groups, which had30cases each. Group A received acupunctureand group B received acupuncture accompanied by waist abdominal muscle training. Wetreated every patient four weeks as a course, once a day, five times one week. The Paindegree, dysfunction scale and Isometric strength of waist abdominal muscles were assessedby visual analogue scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and MonitoredRehabilitation System respectively before and four weeks after treatment. Results: As one group each, scores of VAS, ODI and isometric strength of waistabdominal muscles improved significantly from the beginning to the end of the treatmentcourse (P<0.05).After the treatment, there was no significant variation in VAS scoresbetween two groups (P>0.05), but ODI scores and isometric strength of waist abdominalmuscles in group B changed much more than that in group A.Conclusion: Both routine acupuncture and routine plus waist abdominal muscletraining are effective in relieving nonspecific low back pain. But the later group is moreeffective in relieving dysfunction and increasing muscle strength than the first group, thuswaist abdominal muscle training may be an effective method of improving NLBP.
