| Professor Cao Zhiqun, who is my tutor,has rich experiences in clinical practices andresearch on constipation. He believes that functional constipation is mostly caused bydeficiency of spleen and dysfunction of lung in activating and descending the flow of qiand water. Based on his theory as well as my own expreiences and researchin TCM papers， I have found that the most effective method for treating functionalconstipation during puberty,menopause and elderly age,should be invigorating thespleen to moisten the large instestine,and regulating the flow of qi to relieveconstipation.
