Masticatory muscles play an important role in the final developmentform of the maxillofacial region.Functional appliance use of musclefunction to produce guidance on mandibular growth,by means of thecontraction force of muscle and soft tissue was distraction, guide andstimulate the growth of teeth, alveolar bone and jaw coordination, tocorrect abnormal jaw growth and location. The poor adaptability ofneuromuscular function is the most common cause of functional appliancefails. The main way to improve the functional appliance efficacy is toextend the time of the muscle in the ideal occlusal reconstruction.Electroacupuncture can promote the recovery of muscle function, butthis technique has not been reported for the functional treatment process. Therefore, understanding the electroacupuncture for functional appliancerat masticatory muscles biological effects, and it has clinical significanceof electroacupuncture applied to functional orthodontic.MMP-9in muscle remodeling of extracellular matrix is particularly important to play a leading role in the growing season or repair of thebasement membrane surrounding the reconstruction. Therefore observeefects of electroacupuncture on the expression levels change of mmp-9inpubertal rats masticatory muscle after functional mandibular protrusion, tohelp investigate the electroacupuncturet for functional correction of ratmasticatory muscles biological effects. Objective:To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on theExpression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(mmp-9) in pubertal ratsmasticatory muscle after funetional mandibular protrusion.Explore thebiological mechanisms of the EA stimulation on pubertal rats masticatorymuscle after funetional mandibular, and to find new means to improvefunctional appliance clinical efficacy.Methods:(1) establish functional mandibular protrusion treatment in a ratmodel, and the effect of electroacupuncture in rats model.(2) detect the expression MMP-9protein of anterior belly ofthe rat digastric in normal rats, functional correction of rats, and the effectof electroacupuncture stimulation on function of rat stomach muscle byimmunoperoxidase technique.(3) detect the expression of MMP-9mRNA of anterior belly ofthe rat digastric in normal rats, functional correction of rats, and the effect of electroacupuncture stimulation on function of rat stomach muscle byrealtime fluores-cence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)technique.Results:(1) The successful establishment of functional appliance under PointAcupuncture rat model, and rat electroacupuncture to stimulate acupuncturepoints.(2) Immunohistochemical results showed that:Normal group (blankcontrol group(BG)),the functional appliance group (Condition controlgroup(CG)), acupoint EA group (experimental group(TG)), MMP-9proteinexpression level exist statistically significant difference.(3) RT-PCR detection results showed that: normal group, thefunctional appliance group, acupoint EA group MMP-9mRNA expressionlevel have statistically significant difference. Conclusion:Electroacupuncture technology can affect the expression of matrixmetalloproteinase-9in pubertal rats masticatory muscle after functionalmandibular protrusion, which may improve the function of treatmenteffect.
