Background:Though the rapid development of dialysis has produced a well marked increase in the life expectancy of maintenance hemodialysis patients, their quality of life are still not satisfactory. Researches have indicated that physical activity level of hemodialysis patients were low and physical activity was important independent predict factor of patients’quality of life and survival. Domestic and foreign experts have emphasis on the importance of regular physical activity to maintain and improve the physical and psychological health of hemodialysis patients. However, the physical activity of this population is not ideal. Only knowing the influencial factors of physical activity can we implement physical activity program successfully in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the physical activity and its influencial factors of maintenance hemodialysis patients. Objective:To describe physical activity of maintenance hemodialysis patients and to explore the influencial factors that affect their physical activity.Method:A descriptive design was used. By convenient sampling,231maintenance hemodialysis patients were recruited from hemopurification centers in Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing Hospital and the General Hospital of Chinese People’s Liberation Army. The Human Activity Profile (HAP) was used to assess their physical activity. The demographic questionnaire, Dialysis Patient-perceived Exercise Benefits and Barriers Scale (DPEBBS), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), the Vitality dimension of SF-36, Exercise Self-efficacy Scale and Social Support Rating Scale were used to explore the factors that could affect patient physical activity.Results:(1) The average score of patient maximum activity score was70.55±10.65, and the average score of adjusted activity score was60.25±14.13.(2) Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that age, diabetic nephropathy, exercise self-efficacy, EPO dose, depression, sex and education were the influencial factors of maximum activity score and explained49.5%of the variance of the maximum activity score; age, exercise self-efficacy, EPO dose, diabetic nephropathy, fatigue, number of complications, perceived exercise benefits and barriers were the influencial factors of adjusted activity score and explained57.1%of the variance of the adjusted activity score. Conclusion:The current condition of physical activity in maintenance hemodialysis patients was not ideal. Self care physical activity performance was the best while independent exercise performance was the worst. The influencial factors of the maximum physical activity ability included age, diabetic nephropathy, exercise self-efficacy, EPO dose, depression, sex and education. The influencial factors of the usual daily activity included age, exercise self-efficacy, EPO dose, diabetic nephropathy, fatigue, number of complications, perceived exercise benefits and barriers. Exercise self-efficacy, perceived exercise benefits and barriers, fatigue and depression were the main modifiable factors. In order to maintain and improve the physical activity level and ability of maintenance hemodialysis patients, it is necessary to assess their physical activity and influencial factors, and provide individualized instructions on physical activity.
