The Shear Bond Strength Between Polymethyl Methacrylate And Silicone-Based Soft Denture Liner

Objective:To study the Shear Bond Strength (SBS) of two types of silicone soft linerand Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA); to compare the effect of different artificialsaliva storage time on Shear Bond Strength (SBS) of Thermal Curing and RoomTemperature Vulcanizing (RTV) silicone rubber.Methods:Water-Bath Heating Method for the120PMMA specimens (50mm×10mm×3mm), the PMMA specimens were randomly divided into10groups, using Ufi GelP as soft-liner material to respectively prepare6test specimens as following:shearresistant strength test specimens (Group A1); RTV artificial saliva storage1d (GroupA2); room temperature curing storage7d (Group A3); room temperature curingstorage180d (Group A4); room temperature curing storage360d (Group A5);According above sectioned group, using Silagum-Comfort as soft-liner material toprepare5groups test specimen for shear resistant strength test as Group B1-B2. Testthe SBS on the electronic universal testing machine with10mm/min speed; Usingscanning electron microscopy (SEM) to observe the adhesives layer, the exfoliativeinterface and group the failure mode.Results:The material and group factors had satisfaction effects on SBS, there weresignificances in A1&A2, B1&B2(P<0.05), rest of Groups were not significant(P>0.05), the two types material failure mode showed no significances (P>0.05).SEM images showed a whisker hump on the adhesives layer of Group A2, B2, therest of groups showed a continual consistency adhesives interface. There are a lot ofbubbles in the cure UGP and no air bubbles in the SLC.Conclusion:The SBS of the UGP, SLC and PMMA have achieved the minimumClinical standard of0.44Mpa, the SBS between these two types of material showedsignificances. Thermo and room temperature polymerization of UGP and SLCshowed the differences with PMMA on SBS, the SBS of silicone rubber under roomtemperature polymerization would increase with time.
