Objective: The study here aims to use oral DL-3-n-butylph-thalide(NBP)to treat patients of vascular cognitive impairment no dementia(VCIND)for thirty days to investigate the impact of NBP on the changes of theassessment scores of MMSE and CDT, to discuss the importance and meaningof NBP using in early subtal cognitive impair patients to protect them fromdementia. Methods: According to strict joining group standard,97patients of MLIare accepted in this study. After informed the test aim, giving permission, thepatients are allocated to two groups, one is NBP treatment group(n=61),who aredivided into non-hypertensive non-diabetic group(group A), hypertensivegroup(group B), diabetic group(group C), hypertensive diabetic group(groupD).the other is controlling group(n=36)using conventional treatment, they wererequired to take the MMSE and CDT again then got the new scores.Results:1.MMSE Scores:1.1The before and after self control study intreatment group:the change has the statistically meaning (P<0.05);but there hasno meaning in statistic in controlling group, that suggest NBP can improve thelevel of cognitive, but conventional treatment can’t.1.2The before and after self control study in group A,group B and group C:the change has the statisticallymeaning, but group D,that demonstrate NBP can’t improve the level ofcognitive of patients in group D;1.3The change between the group A andgroup B are tested to be statistically meaningful,so the same result in changebetween the group A and group C,but the opposite result in change betweengroup B and group C;1.4The scores of subitems of MMSE in treatment group:the before and after self control study in memory and attention and calculation:the change has the statistically meaning, that demonstrate NBP can improve thelevel of memory and attention and calculation.2.CDT scores:2.1The before andafter self control study in treatment group:the change has the statisticallymeaning (P<0.05);2.2The before and after self control study in controllinggroup has no meaning in statistics(P>0.05);2.3The before and after self controlstudy in group A,group B and group C:the change has the statistically meaning, but group D,that suggest NBP can’t improve the level of cognitive of patients ingroup D.Conclusions:1NBP can ameliorate the cognitive function in patients ofVCIND, mainly reflects in improvement of memory, attention and thecomputing power, that suggest NBP can be used to avoid dementia in patientswith VCIND, and provide the rigid evidence of using NBP as a method toresponse to these patients from dementia;2.The risk factors of Cerebrovasculardisease such as hypertension and diabetes may attenuate the treatment effect ofthe NBP, affect prognosis...
