Objective: By measuring Cephalometric lateral radiographs in some way, to comparecraniofacial morphology characteristics e in patients with crossbite in anterior teeth andunilateral cleft lip and palate, and provide a reference for clinical diagnosis, treatmentoptions and prognosis in orthodontic treatment. Methods: In accordance with theinclusion criteria,79patients, who ask for the fixed orthodontic treatment, wererandomly selected at Department of Orthodontics of the Ninth People’s Hospital ofShanghai Jiaotong University from April2011to January2012, the average age ofpatients11~15years old,41in the group1with crossbite in anterior teeth, and38in thegroup2with Unilateral complete or incomplete cleft lip combined with unilateralcomplete or incomplete cleft palate, and undergoing cleft lip and palate repair surgery at2to3years old. The cephalometric lateral radiographs of two groups of patients weremeasured before orthodontic treatment, and were compared in characteristics anddifferences of craniofacial growth and development, and then a statistical analysis wasdone. Results: the values of SNA, Co-A, SNB in group1were more than that in group2,and value of Ar-Go-Me, SN-MP, PP-MP and N-S-Gn were less, showing significantdifferences respectively(P<0.01); the values of N-S-Ba, ANB, A-N-Pg and UL-Ep ingroup1were a little higher than that of group2, but the differences weresignificant(P>0.05). Conclution: There were some differences in craniofacial structurebetween the both groups. The group2showed smaller growth and development in maxillaand mandible than those in the group1, but with clockwise-rotated mandibular plane andbigger gonial angle; The soft profile in the two groups were not significant difference; The findings provide important reference and evidence to manage the malocclusiondiagnose and orthodontic control.
