Objective: To analyse concentration of the serum copper、iron and zinc of the ruraluygur elderly stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and peoplewith no COPD in Hetian region of Xinjiang, so as to explore the correlation among theserum trace elements of the patients with stable COPD,and the correlation with pulmonaryfunction.Methods:150rural uygur elderly patients with COPD (COPD group) and150rural uygur elderly people with no COPD (non-COPD group) in Hetian region of Xinjiangwere collected with general material, vorious targets of pulmonary function and venousblood in a cross-sectional study, their serum concentrations of copper、iron and zinc weredetermined using a Varian Spectra flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Data wereanalysised by SPSS17.0statistical software. Results: There were no significant differencesin general information between the two group (P>0.05). There were significantdifferences in FEV1,FEV1/FVC,FEV1%expected value (P<0.05). There were nosignificant differences in serum copper levels between COPD group and non-COPD group(28.013±20.840vs26.566±21.840μmol/L)(P>0.05).There were no significantdifferences in serum iron levels between COPD group and non-COPD group (45.534±28.243vs46.996±29.798μmol/L)(P>0.05), while there were significant differences inserum zinc levels between COPD group and non-COPD group (23.529±17.263vs30.112±22.585μmol/L)(P<0.05). The content of serum copper was negatively correlated withiron in COPD group, with a statistical significance (P<0.05). The content of serum ironwas negatively correlated with zinc both in COPD group and in non-COPD group, theyare both with a statistical significance (P<0.05). FEV1was negatively correlated withzinc in COPD group, with a statistical significance (P<0.05).Conclusion:The serum concentrations of zinc of COPD group is obviously lower than non-COPD group, it ispossible relation with repeated infection and systemic inflammation response. Low zincmeans reduced lung function, it is prompted that zinc supplements is contributed toimprove pulmonary function of the COPD patients.
