Objective: To research the application of metabonomics in the theory of TraditionalUygur Medicine, we studied the urine metabonomics with different types of syndrome inTraditional Uygur medicine carrying type2Diabetes based on NMR. Methods: patientsenrolled in the study were classified by the definition and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus ofWHO, which include normal plasma glucose, impaired fasting glucose and diabetes.Thenusing the theory of Traditional Uygur Medicine diagnosed the three groups respectively:there are8syndrome types(savda khan, balgham, sapra, abnormal savda, abnormal khan, abnormal balgham, and abnormal sapra) in people with normal plasma glucose,8syndrome types(savda khan, balgham, sapra, abnormal savda, abnormal khan, abnormalbalgham and abnormal sapra) in people with impaired fasting glucose and4syndrometypes(abnormal savda, abnormal khan, abnormal balgham, and abnormal sapra) in peoplewith diabetes. Different pattern recognition analyses (including principal componentanalysis (PCA), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS) and orthogonal to partialleast squares discriminant analysis (OPLS))were applied to distinguish the metabolome. Results: PCA and PLS-DA can not effectively distinguish the metabolome among in urineamong the groups among Abnormal Hilit syndrome with type2DM and Abnormal Hilitsyndrome but with NPG and Normal Hilit with NPG, while OPLS can of these threegroups. OPLS can distinguish the metabolome among in urine the groups between type2DM and IFG; and the groups among type2DM and IFG and NPG.. Conclusions: Themetobonomic platform based on NMR and OPLS provides the scientific evidence forsyndrome types in traditional Uygur Medicine carrying type2diabetes mellitus, andproves the existence of syndrome types in traditional Uygur Medicine carrying type2diabetes mellitus. OPLS has more efficiency pattern recognition than PCA and PLS-DA indistinguishing of syndrome types in traditional Uygur Medicine carrying type2diabetes.
