Objective:To investigate the expression of type M2pyruvate kinase, and its relationship with invasion, metastasis and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcionoma. Methods:The expression of type M2pyruvate kinase was detected by immunohistochemistry of SABC in72specimens of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and15specimens of nasopharyngeal inflammatory epithelial tissues, and the relationship between expression and clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma were analyzed.Results:1.The expression rate of Tumor M2-PK (TuM2-PK) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma was higher than that in nasopharyngeal inflammatory tissue.(51.4%VS7%, P=0.001).2.The expression of TuM2-PK was not associated with sex,age (P>0.05).However, the patients with high TuM2-PK expression had a higher, lymph node metastasis rate(P<0.05), distant metastasis rate(P=0.047), and relapse rate(P=0.035).3.5-year survival rate of the high TuM2-PK expression goup was37.8%;the low TuM2-PK expreesion group was68.6%,these is significant difference between these two group (P<0.05). Univariate analysis showed that the5-year survival rate of nasopharyngeal carcinoma was correlated with T stage, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis,TNM stage and high expression of TuM2-PK (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis,TNM stage and the expression of TuM2-PK were the influence factors of the5-year survival rate.(P<0.05).Conclusion:The expression of TuM2-PK was higher in nasopharyngeal carcionoma than that of nasopharyngeal inflammatory epithelial tissues. The expression of TuM2-PK is associated with higher lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and relapse of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The expression of TuM2-PK could be used as a new auxiliary predictive factor of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
