Objective:Adipose tissue is not only an energy storage depot but also an active endocrine organ.lt can release a large number of adipokines.Omtentin-1is a recently identified adipose tissue-derived cytokine.This study was undertaken to find the relationships between serum omentin-1concentration、body fat mass and bone mineral density in Changsha areal men.Methods:The study was a cross-sectional study aimed of219(20-80years old) healthy men. The plasma concentrations of omentin-1、adiponectin,leptin and resistin were measured with ELISA.BMD value were measured using dual-energy-x-ray absorptiometry at various skeletal sites:the anteroposterior spine (AP), femeral neck (FN),total hip (T-hip) and total body BMD (TBMD);Body composition including lean tissue mass (LTM) and body fat mass (FBM) were measured by DEXA.The relationship was analyzed by statistical methods.Results:(1) Plasma Omentin-1was not correlated with age and height. Plasma Omentin-1was negatively correlated with weight,BMI, waist circumfere, waist-to-hip ratio (r=-0.418,-0.419,-0.355,-0.402), and their best regression model was quadratic equations (R2=0.1840.194,0.197,0.141);(2) The plasma Omentin-1levels in the overweight subjects was significantly lower than those of the normal weight subjects (p<0.05);(3) Plasma Omentin-1was negatively correlated with FBM,Fat%, trunk fat(r=-0.430,-0.408,-0.431);(4) Multiple stepwise regression anlysis revealed that FBM, waist-to-hip ratio, plasma adiponectin concentration were important variables affecting plasma Omentin-1concentration and the FBM can explain30.6%of the variance;(5) Plasma omentin-1was negatively correlated with AP BMD and TBMD, after adjustment for age,BMI,body mass, the correlation was disappeared;(6) Multiple stepwise regression anlysis revealed that LTM was the most important variable affecting the BMD and it can explain10.5-14.7%of the variance.Conclusion:(1) Plasma omentin-1was negatively correlated with weight,BMI, waist circumfere,waist-to-hip ratio;(2) The plasma Omentin-1levels in the overweight subjects were significantly lower than those of the normal weight subjects. Omentin-1might be intimately related to obesity;(3) Plasma Omentin-1negatively correlated with FBM, Fat%, trunk fat; FBM, waist-to-hip ratio, plasma adiponectin concentration were important variables affecting plasma Omentin-1concentration;(4) Plasma Omentin-1was not correlated with BMD.
