Objective:This study was designed to investigate the change of serum Interleukin-4(IL-4)、Interferon-γ(IFN-γ)and urinary leukotriene E4(LTE4) in acute exacerbation andconvalescence of infants with asthmatic diseases, to explore the relationship betweenchange of serum IL-4and urinary LTE4、serum IFN-γand urinary LTE4and changeof patients’ condition,to speculate the pathogenesis of asthma disease. Methods:Select infant children in pediatric outpation deparment of our hospital and thehospitalization from January to December2011(age<3years). There were22infantswith asthmatic diseases (asthmatic group),and20infants with non-asthmatic diseasesbut with respiratory tract infection (non-asthmatic group). Serum and urine sampleswere collected.Concentration of IL-4、IFN-γand LTE4in those samples weremeasured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The results wereanalyzed by SPSS13.0.Results:1. The levels of serum IL-4in acute asthma period was higher than that of acutenon-asthma and normal control group(P<0.01);In remission/convalescence,thelevels of serum IL-4were lower than that of acute period(P<0.01), were notsignificantly different from non-asthma during remission period(P>0.05), but werestill higher than that of normal control group(P<0.01).2. The levels of serum IFN-γ in acute asthma period was lower than that of acutenon-asthma and normal control group(P<0.01);In remission/convalescence,thelevels of serum IFN-γwere higher than that of acute period(P<0.01), but were stilllower than that of non-asthma during remission period and normal control group(P<0.01).3. The levels of serum IL-4/IFN-γin acute asthma period was higher than that ofacute non-asthma and normal control group(F=15.86,P<0.01);In remission, the levels of serum IL-4/IFN-γwere lower than that of acute period (t=4.14,P<0.01), butwere still higher than that of non-asthma and normal control group(P<0.01).4. The levels of urinary LTE4in acute asthma period was higher than normalcontrol group(P<0.01), but were not significantly different from acute non-asthma(P>0.05);In remission, the levels of urinary LTE4were lower than that of acuteperiod(P<0.01), but were still higher than that of non-asthma during remissionperiod and normal control group (P<0.01).5. There was positively correlation between urinary LTE4and serum IL-4leveles in the acute stage in asthmatic group(r=0.823,P<0.01)There was negativecorrelation between urinary LTE4and serum IFN-γleveles in the acute stage inasthmatic group(r=-0.806,P<0.01).Conclusion:1. The levels of serum IL-4in acute asthma period was higher than that of acutenon-asthma and normal control group, with the ease of asthma, the concentration ofserum IL-4decreased significantly, but was higher than that of acute non-asthma andnormal control group, suggesting that IL-4might contribute to the mechanism of acuteasthma and clinical remission of asthma.2. The levels of serum IFN-γin acute asthma period was lower than that of acutenon-asthma and normal control group, with the ease of asthma, the concentration ofserum IFN-γ increased significantly, but was lower than that of acute non-asthma andnormal control group, suggesting that IFN-γmight contribute to asthma.3. The levels of IL-4/IFN-γ in acute asthma period was higher than that of acutenon-asthma and normal control group, with the ease of asthma, the concentration ofIL-4/IFN-γ decreased significantly, but was higher than that of acute non-asthma andnormal control group, suggesting that the infants with asthmatic diseases had animbalance of Th1/Th2。4. In acute asthma period, the serum IL-4and urine LTE4concentration waspositively correlated(r=0.823,P<0.01);the serum IFN-γand urine LTE4concent-ration was positively correlated(r=-0.806,P<0.01).5. The levels of urine LTE4in acute asthma period was higher than that of acutenon-asthma and normal control group, with the ease of asthma, the concentration of urine LTE4decreased significantly, but was higher than that of acute non-asthma andnormal control group, suggesting that CysLTs might contribute to the mechanism ofacute asthma and clinical remission of asthma.6. Concentration of serum IL-4and urine LTE4in infants with asthmaticdiseases maintained a high level. Concentration of serum IFN-γ in infants withasthmatic diseases maintained a lower level. The balance of Th1/Th2cell immuneand Leukotrienes1might be one of the major factors that led to the infants wheezingepisode. This provides certain theory basis in the treatment of infants with asthmaicdisease for clinical application immune intervention, adjustment the balance ofTh1/Th2,the use of leukotriene receptor antagonist.
