The Application Of Methylene Blue Tracer Method In Breast Cancer Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy

Objective Investigate the significance of methylene blue as a tracer apply in the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for position judgment and the lymph node cleaning guiding.Method Methylene blue was used to trace SLNB in72patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The blue-stained lymph nodes were found, removed and marked for pathologic examination.We then carried out breast modified radical surgery and routine axillary lymph node dissection (ALND).The metastasis consistency was finally examined between sentinel lymph node and axillary lymph node by pathological paraffin slicesResults Among those65patients,132sentinel lymph nodes were detected,2.03per patient on average and the detection rate for former sentinel lymph node were90.3%;24cases detected in SLN-positive; for the rest of41cases with SLN-negative,2cases were found with axillary lymph node metastasis. The sensitivity is92.3%, false negative rate is7.7%, and false-positive is0.Conclusion1. There is great significance of sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer treatment.2.
