| BackgroundAt present, most studies about the treatment of Chest Stuffiness and Pains (that is, Coronary Heart Disease:CHD) in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) mainly concern on the "recipe" and "medicine" which among "principle, method, recipe, medicines" in TCM as the starting point, while research revolves on "principle" is not enough. What’s more, although the basic theory is completed, the application study of concrete diseases are not thorough enough. On the basis of the system of Five Viscera Related Theory (FVRT), the present study intends to collect the literature about the treatment of CHD from the representative ancient books and records written by TCM physician in Ming and Qing Dynasties, so as to, not only summarize the characteristics of treatment for CHD and provide a theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of CHD, but also enrich the application research experience of FVRT.ObjectivesBy the use of FVRT proposed by Professor Deng Tietao, the present study systematically analyzes and collects the literature about the treatment of CHD from the representative ancient books and records written by TCM physician in Ming and Qing Dynasties, in order to enrich theoretic connotation of FVRT on specific diseases, and to explore theoretical basis of clinical treatment for CHD in FVRT.MethodsBy the guidance of FVRT, the present study applies the research methods of analysis and synthesis, induction, deduction, joint method of agreement difference, etc., which are common methods used in TCM literature. Combined with frequency statistics, binary logistics, the study analyzes the content about the treatment of CHD from the representative ancient books and records written by TCM physician in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and summarizes the pathogenesis recognition and treatment characteristics of CHD, which provides a theoretical basis for constructing the system about the diagnosis and treatment of CHD in FVRT.ResultsThe characteristics for physician of the Ming and Qing Dynasties treating CHD are as follows:diagnosed both by deficiency and excess takes up the majority, accounting for69%; treated by heart-based theory takes up22.4%; the ratio for treated by two viscera related theory is59.0%, among which, heart-spleen related and heart-liver related make up the largest proportion; treated by multi-viscera related theory occupies18.6%. Based on the recognition of pathogenic factors, it is revealed that:qi stagnation closely relates to heart-liver theory, which is statistically significant (P<0.05); phlegm and dampness closely relates to heart-spleen, heart-lung, heart-kidney theories, which is statistically significant (P<0.05); blood stasis is closely related to heart-liver related theory, which is statistically significant (P<0.05); pathogenic cold is closely related to heart--kidney theory, which is statistically significant (P<0.05); pathogenic heat is closely related to heart-liver theory, which is statistically significant (P<0.05).ConclusionChinese physician of Ming and Qing Dynasties bel ieve that CHD is an illness which is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. Based on the heart-spleen related theory, CHD should be treated by replenishing deficiency, while on the heart-liver related theory, treat the symptoms of qi stagnation, blood stasis and pathogenic heat. Furthermore, on the basis of heart-spleen, heart-lung and heart-kidney related theories, it is showed that treating phlegm and dampness is the choice. |
