ObjectiveThe heart and liver correlation theory in TCM is based on Physical contact, pathological mechanism between the heart and liver and its guidance for the treatment. The academic research of heart and liver correlation theory in TCM and discussions on connotation is to analyze its academic source, elaborate its physiological and pathological mechanism, In order to expand the diagnosis about diseases relate heart and liver, deepen the theoretical study of the correlation of five viscera.MethodsThis paper adopted literature collection and analysis methods combined, from academic research, connotation discussions and medical record examples and modern literature review preliminary discuss heart and liver correlation theory in TCM. Through the ancient physicians discussions about heart liver relationship, carding its academic origin, from the physical contact, pathological mechanism two aspects summarizes its connotation, Enumerating disease diagnosis and treatment use this theory to prove the theory scientific and practical.ResultsThe theory of the correlation of heart and liver was origin of Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor and the Classic of Questions, During the Qin and Han Dynasties, Doctors discussed it from the internal physiological function between liver and heart;Jin Sui dynasties doctors inherited the previous, and described it from the pulse, etiology and pathogenesis, acupuncture effect and other aspects;Theoretical study of Tang and Song Dynasties doctors to further implement the physiological and pathological relations of heart and liver; Jin Yuan dynasties doctors put forward their new views and ideas in the basic of Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor, they laid the foundation for further improvement. especially Zhu Danxi presented Jun Xiang mutual relationship; Until the Ming and Qing Dynasties, doctors deepened the knowledge about correlation of heart and liver and used it in clinical applications; Modern medicine scholars explorated it from a multidisciplinary field, combinated modern science and technology.The connotation of the correlation of heart and liver, from the close physical contact it include:the Yin and Yang, five elements, Meridian interlinked, Qi and blood, seven emotions related God and Soul t, Jun Xiang mutual system. Heart and liver physiology on the correlation determining pathological changes of heart in the mutual influence, Heart and liver influence each other by Yin and Yang, five elements, Meridian interlinked, Qi and blood, seven emotions and other factors. The mutual transmission of heart and liver embodied in liver disease to heart disease, heart disease to liver disease and heart with liver disease.This theroy is widely used in In clinical.
