| Objective: To study the expression and significance of S100A4, MMP-2and MMP-9protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and its correlation with clinic pathologic features innasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods: In72cases of invasive nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the expression ofS100A4, MMP-2and MMP-9proteins were determined by the immunohistochemicalstaining, respectively. The relationship between these proteins and clinic pathologicfeatures in nasopharyngeal carcinoma was analyzed by χ2test and Spearman’s rankcorrelation analysis.Results:(1) In72cases of invasive nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the positive rates ofS100A4, MMP-2and MMP-9protein were76.4%,69.4%,77.8%, respectively; while thepositive rates of S100A4, MMP-2and MMP-9protein in chronic nasopharyngitis sampleswere15%,0%,0%, respectively (p<0.05).(2) The positive rates of S100A4, MMP-2andMMP-9in patients with Stage N2~3or stage N3-4were higher than that in early stagepatients (p<0.05). The positive rate of S100A4in patients with basis cranii involvementwas higher than that in the patients without involvement.(3)The positive stain of S100A4,MMP-2and MMP-9in nasopharyngeal carcinoma correlated with unfavorable prognosis.(4) Spearman’s rank correlation analysis shown S100A4correlates with MMP-2andMMP-9positively,and MMP-2did not correlate with MMP-9.Conclusion:(1) S100A4ã€MMP-2and MMP-9testing could predict the invasivebehavior and higher clinical TNM stage of nasopharyngeal carcinoma;(2) Theover-expression of S100A4ã€MMP-2and MMP-9correlates with the metastasis ofnasopharyngeal carcinoma and unfavorable prognosis. |
