Objective:1. To investigate the status of nursing staff of cancer hospital about chemotherapy occupational prevention andprotection;2. To analysis the factors affecting nursing staff’s knowledge and behavior about chemotherapy occupationalprevention and protection;3. To assess the exposure status of nurses to antineoplastic drugs and to analysis its influencingfactors;4. To assess the anxiety condition of nurses after the exposure to antineoplastic drugs and to analysisits influencing factors; Methods:It’s an epidemiologic cross-sectional study. By stratified random cluster sampling method,3cancerhospitals were choosed in Henan province and a total of892clinical nurses and126head nurses wereinvestigated by questionnaires. The data was recorded by EpiData3.1and analyzed by SPSS13.0.Result:(1) The average score for their behavior of chemotherapy occupational protection was (50.06±23.20)marks. Knowledge of protection (regression coefficient0.257), management of protection (regressioncoefficient0.147), training time (regression coefficient0.079), hospital level (regression coefficient0.125)and labor relations (regression coefficient0.086) were the factors affecting nurses’ behavior ofchemotherapy occupational protection;(2) The average score for their knowledge of chemotherapy occupational protection was (71.34±18.63)marks. Behavior of protection (regression coefficient0.261), hospital level (regression coefficient0.231) andtechnical titles (regression coefficient0.183) were the factors affecting nurses’ knowledge of chemotherapyoccupational protection; (3) There was positive correlation between nurses’ behavior and knowledge on chemotherapyoccupational prevention and protection(r=0.327, P=0.000);(4) The average score for the exposure status of nurses to antineoplastic drugs was (51.01±74.23)marks. Sections (regression coefficient-0.212), behavior of protection (regression coefficient-0.141), theprotective conditions (regression coefficient-0.120) and training time (regression coefficient-0.109) werethe factors affecting the exposure status of nurses to antineoplastic drugs;(5) The average score for the anxiety condition of nurses after the exposure to antineoplastic drugswas (47.96±11.33) marks.231(25.90percent) nurses were with a propensity to anxiety. The exposure toantineoplastic drugs (regression coefficient0.158), departments (regression coefficient-0.094) and age(regression coefficient-0.080) were the factors affecting nurses’ anxiety condition after the exposure toantineoplastic drugs;(6) The score of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale of nurses and the chemotherapy exposure index werepositively correlated in cancer hospital (r=0.172, P <0.01);Conclusion:The status of chemotherapy occupational protection of nurses in the tumor hospitals is not optimisticand needs to be improved. From two perspectives of managers and practitioners, improving chemotherapyoccupational protection awareness and taking effective measures are necessary and urgent. Managersshould attach importance to chemotherapy professional education and training. At the same time, practitioners should enhance self-protection compliance to reduce the occupational harm to a minimum andensure the safety of occupation together with managers.
