Objective: To observe the expression of osteopontin (OPN) and matrixmetalloproteinase-2(MMP-2) in malignant melanoma, basal cell carcinomaand nevus and discussion on osteopontin and matrix metalloproteinase-2foundin malignant skin tumors.Method: Total of44cases specimen were collected of which were dividedinto malignant melanoma group of16(n=16), basal cell carcinoma group of14(n=14)and nevus group of14(n=14). Immunohistochemistry (SP method)was used for detection of osteopontin (OPN) and matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2) expression in these specimens. The positive rates of OPN andMMP-2were analyzed to study the difference and expression in these threegroups. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS18.0.Result:①Rate of osteopontin expression in malignant melanoma wasfound93.8%, in basal cell carcinoma was found71.4%and in nevus was14.3%. P value was found to be significant (P<0.01) in osetopontin ofmalignant melanoma compared to nevus while there was significant differencein P value P <0.01)in osteopontin of basal cell carcinoma compared to nevus. But P value (P>0.05) was not significant in osteopontin of malignant melanomacompared to basal cell carcinoma.②Rate of matrix metalloproteinase-2expression in malignant melanoma was found87.5%and in basal cellcarcinoma was found64.3%and in nevus was7.1%. P value was found to besignificant (P<0.01) in metalloproteinase-2of malignant melanoma comparedto nevus while there was significant difference in P value P <0.01)inmetalloproteinase-2of basal cell carcinoma compared to nevus. But P value(P>0.05) was not significant in metalloproteinase-2of malignant melanoma compared to basal cell carcinoma.③Rate of osteopontin and matrixmetalloproteinase-2expression and their relation in malignant melanoma andbasal cell carcinoma.Conclusion:1.Osteopontin and matrix metalloproteinase-2expression and their relatedin malignant skin tumors.2. Matrix metalloproteinase-2expression in malignant melanoma.3.Osteopontin and matrix metalloproteinase-2expression in basal cellcarcinoma.
