Objective:To investigate the effect of Egr-1(Early growth response-1)and TNF-a(Tumour Necrosis Factor-a)on the pathogenesis of lichen planus.Methodsr TUNEL was used to detect the apoptotic cells, andthe immunchistochemical technique was used to test the expression of Egr-1and TNF-a in30LP lesions and30normal skins. Results:Compared to the control, the number of apoptotic cells was significantly incresaed in the ketatinocytes and infiltrating lymphocytes of lichen planus, the difference of the AI (apoptosis index) between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05).In the same site, the expression of Egr-1and TNF-a in lichen planus wasmarkly stronger than that in the nomal skins (P<0.05),and there were positive correlations between the expression of Egr-1and TNF-a in LP lesions (ri=0.8967,P<0.05); In the case of lichen planus lesions, the expression of Egr-1and TNF-a were both positively correlated with the keratinocyte AI (r2=0.7223, P<0.05; r3=0.7758,P<0.05).Conclusion:(1) In lichen planus, the apoptosis of keratinocytes and part lymphocytes were significantly increased.(2)The up-regulated expression of Egr-1and TNF-a were found in lichen plauns, specisally in the part of more apoptosis, which shows that they may participate in the pathogenesis of lichen planus by interaction midiated apoptosis.
