Hospital infection is generated along with the hospital, which causes a direct economic loss as10-15billion yuan per year in China and becomes a serious public health problem at all levels of medical institutions. The source of infection, route of transmission and susceptible population of hospital infection are all changed dramatically because of the rapid development of modern medicine, the introduction of advanced medical equipments, the extensive application of new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, and the increase of a variety of traumatic, invasive examination and treatment methods. The emergence of multiple drug-resistant strains and change of resistance patterns has led to the increase of the ratio of refractory infections and the difficulty of infection control. After the SARS incident in2003, Chinese government accelerated the process of legal construction of hospital infection management. Issues of hospital infection get wide attention from both the whole society and the medical world, and the attention paid to hospital infection reaches a historical height. Therefore, we need re-examine the current condition of hospital infection, probe into the preventive and control strategies of hospital infection management and lower down the occurrence of hospital infection to the maximum degree under new situation to save health resources and put them into more meaningful fields for the benefit to the whole society. Objective:The purposes of this study to grasp the current situation, problems and weak links existed in hospital infection, to put forward some feasible suggestions, advices and strategies, to standardize hospital infection work at all levels of medical institutions and to enhance the level of medical professionals’abilities on hospital infection management, medical quality and skills by investigating on hospital infection of52medical institutions in different grades and properties of local area comprehensively.Contents:According to the "Law of the People’s Republic of China on Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases","Hospital Infection management method" and other normative documents related to the hospital infection management, we designed self-made questionnaire and investigated52medical institutions in different grades on the status quo of hospital infection. The survey comprehensively and truly showed the status quo, problems and weak links existed in hospital infection at local area. Methods:We adopted cross-sectional investigation method.1.Based on the laws, rules, documents, regulations, and standards related to hospital infection, we designed a relative scientific and comprehensive questionnaire.2.Totally52hospitals were selected as survey subjects, among which,17the third-grade hospitals,22the second-grade hospitals and13primary level hospitals. 3.And6experienced professionals at hospital infection management post were selected to make the investigation on the52hospitals. They were divided into3groups averagely. The investigation was carried out in combination of the launching of national wide "Long March of Medical Quality" and "People Trusted Hospital" activities and special-purpose check-up on hospital infection. And investigation time was determined based on hospital scale. Results and discussions:1.Hospital infection management organizations began to take shape. However, the administrative functional authorities of these management organizations can not bring into full play. Therefore, these organizations should be perfected. And their position and responsibility should be clear cut. And their three-grade network monitoring function should bring into full play.2.Although the professional echelon of hospital infection management has already been built, their professional abilities need to be enhanced further. The hospital infection management teams should be stabilized. And the diathesis construction of professional teams should be strengthened.3.The hospital infection monitoring tends to be reasonable, but the development of monitoring level is unbalanced. So hospital infection monitoring should be boosted and the bulk work of hospital infection management should be well done.4.For two unnoticed population group in hospital infection management should be trained on professional knowledge, and enhance their awareness of total participation.5.The hospital infection work needs more support. The equipments are inadequate and refurnished slow, which existed hidden danger in medical safety. One should add more funds investment and update equipments to ensure a foundation construction for hospital infection management work..6.The administration of the use of antibacterials is still the focal point in the future. One should continue to strengthen both the monitoring and management of the use of antibacterials and multi-drug resistant bacteria.7.The informatization construction of hospital infection management has not yet been achieved, so we need to accelerate the informatization construction and to implement the real time monitoring of hospital infection. Conclusion:Hospital infection management work at the third-grade medical institutions has gradually achieved normalization. Some the second-grade and primary level medical institutions existed problems to a certain extent in the following aspects:the hospital infection management organization, training status, hospital infection monitoring, the management of the use of antibacterials, the hand hygiene of medical professionals, the cleaning quality of medical equipments and the condition of investment in equipments and so on. The health administrative departments should continue to support the hospital infection management work at all the three grades medical institutions, to strengthen the support and supervision forces to primary level medical institutions, and arrange reasonably and control effectively health resources of hospital infection.
