The Association Between Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase Gene Polymorphism And Type2Diabetic Nephropathy

Objective To investigate the association of an insertion/deletion(4b/4a) polymorphism of endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) gene with diabetic nephropathy(DN) in type2diabetic patients.Methods205chinese subjects(69with type2diabetic nephropathy,73without nephropathy but type2diabetes,63with heathy volunteers) were selected to join in the experiment. The polymorphism of endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) gene was assayed by extraction DNA from whole blood,PCR and electrophoretic separation.Results Type2diabetic patiengts with nephropathy showed high freguencies of4a allele than type2diabetic patients without nephropathy and heathy volunteers(χ2=8.2439, P<0.0167;χ2=7.6537, P<0.0167). Type2diabetes patients carrying eNOS gene4a allele compared with ones carrying the4b allele-the risk for the rate increased, OR=3.73,95%C1=3.03～4.18.Conclusion eNOS gene4a alleles and type2diabetic nephropathy have relevance; Type2diabetic patients carrying4a are susceptible to diabetic nephropathy.4a allele is a risk factor in developing diabetic nephropathy.
