Objective:To explore the efficacy of a treatment with antioxidant of L-carnitine in women underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles.Methods:130women undergoing first IVF-ET cycles in our center were analyzed from May to September2011. All women were divided into two groups. Group1(n=57) was administered with L-carnitine, and group2(n=73) was control group without L-carnitine supplementation. To observe its general situation, hormonal level, endometrial thickness on the day of hCG injection and endometrial thickness on OPU, ET administration day, number of oocytes retrieved, number of fertilization, number of embryo cleavage, number of perfect embryos, total number of embryos available, implantation rate, pregnant rate and abortion rate. The clinical effects on the two groups of defferent ages were compared.Results:1.To compare two groups to the women age, infertility fixed number of year, infertility factor, type of infertility, height, body weight, BMI, basic FSH value, basic LH value, basic E2value, AFC and the examination of man semen. All of the index were not statistically significant (P>0.05). 2. The LH and Prog level on the day of hCG injection, compared between the two groups, were not significantly higher (P>0.05), and endometrial thickness on the day of hCG injection, on OPU and ET administration day, had no statistical significance(P>0.05). Data obtained from Group1were higher than those in group2in the level of estradiol (E2) on the day of hCG injection.3.The number of fertilization, number of embryo cleavage, number of perfect embryos and total number of embryos available of LC group increased had statistical significance (P<0.05), The number of oocytes retrieved available of LC group increased without statistical significance (P>0.05).4.The biochemical pregnancy rate, implantation rate, pregnant rate and abortion rate were not significantly higher in LC group than in control group(P<0.05).5.Younger than35years old of the women between two groups showed statistical significance in the level of estradiol (E2) on the day of HCG injection, number of fertilization, number of embryo cleavage, number of embyos of top-quality and total number of embryos available (P<0.05), while others had no significant difference (P>0.05).Conclusions:1.This was the first time that women undergoing first IVF-ET cycles were administered with L-carnitine. Research showed that the level of estradiol (E2) on the day of hCG injection were significantly increased in study group.2.LC group were higher than the control group in the number of fertilization, number of embryo cleavage, number of embyos of top-quality and total number of embryos available.3.According to age group in contrast, indexes above also had significant differences in age<35years old, the study goup were higher than those in the control group, while in age>35years old were not significant. There were no significant influence on endometrial thickness, number of oocytes retrieved, biochemical pregnancy rate, implantation rate, pregnant rate and abortion rate.
