Objective:To examine the role of local resection in the management of duodenal papilla benign tumors.Method:We retrospectively reviewed8patients who underwent local resection of duodenal papilla benign tumor from Jan.2002to Dec.2011. Data on demographics, clinicopathologic factors, intraoperative factors, and postoperative short-and long-term follow-up were analyzed. Results:Local resection was performed in all of8eight patients. Tumor size was1.96±0.65cm. Preoperative biopsies (obtained through duodenoscopy in all patients) showed6adenomas (75%) and2chronic inflammation (25%). Intraoperative frozen section results showed7adenomas (87.5%) and1chronic inflammation (12.5%). The final pathologic diagnosis was8papilla adenomas, including5tubulovillous adenomas,2tubular adenomas, and1villous adenoma. The final pathologic diagnosis was compatible with75%of preoperative biopsies and87.5%of intraoperative frozen section results. The operation time was150+24.11min and intraoperative blood loss was187.5±73.95ml. Postoperative stay was19.25±13.86days. Postoperative recovery time of bilirubin was6+3.57days. Postoperative duodenal obstruction and incisional infection occurred in1patient. With36.42+18.33months follow-ups, no recurrence was noted in8patients.Conclusion:Local resection is a safe and adequate surgical treatment for duodenal papilla benign tumors.
