BackgroundThe liver is the largest solid organ of the body and is rich in blood. Many of malignant tumors of other organs can metastasize to liver in different ways, such as lymph, blood, or directly invasion of the liver to the formation of metastatic liver cancer, also known as secondary liver cancer. Wong Ka Si surgery points out that 57% of the secondary liver cancer is from the primary tumors of the digestive tract, especially in colorectal cancer. When the colorectal cancer is first diagnosised, liver metastasis has occurred for 10%~25%,5 years after transfer occurs at a rate of 13.1%~22.2%. Once patients of liver metastases after vesssed colorectal cancer is regarded as end stage of the disease and abandon the treatment.ObjectiveThis article will explore the curative effect of radiofrequency ablation (RFA)combined with percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI)treat with liver metastases after vesssed colorectal cancer. Research the postoperative complications and survival time, for colorectal cancer liver metastases after curative resection in patients with further treatment to provide clinical reference.MethodsThe clinical datas of the 16 patients with liver metastases after vesssed colorectal cancer were retrospective analysed, which were treated with RFA combined with PEI guided with ultrasound by the general surgery department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, from 2005 to 2008. Finished the combination therapy,We analysised of the incidence of complications, changes in laboratory tests, radiographic changes, and survival.ResultThis treatment course of the patients is successful, the major postoperative complication was fever, postoperative pain and gastrointestinal reaction.8 cases of patients have a fever after RFA, body temperature 37.7℃~38.5℃and continued for 3 days after return to normal.5 patients suffered from nausea and vomiting in or after the operation, which all recovered to normal after symptomatic treatment.9 cases of patients suffered from surgical pain, which is disappeared after symptomatic treatment. All patients had no serious complications, such as pleural effusion, bile leakage and subphrenic abscess et al.We have a mean follow-up of 3 years, median survival was 15months. 1,2,3year survival rates were 67.5%,44%,31.2%.ConclusionIt is minimally invasive and effective that the use of PRFA combined with PEI to treat the patient with liver metastases after vesssed colorectal cancer. So for patients with unresectable colorectal cancer liver metastasis can be considered to give the RFA, or RFA plus PEI therapy.
