Objective To study the variation types of the aortic arch branches in Chinese using multi-slice spiral computed tomography angiography(MSCTA).Materials and Methods MSCTA data from 834 patients who had undergone cervical and head examination were retrospectively analyzed. Two experienced radiologists read the images together. The axial images were used as basic images, MIP and VR techniques were used to help deterlmine the anatomical type. Results We found type A (normal type) in 725 cases, with the prevalence of 86.9%. Total variations of aonic arch branches were found in 109 cases, with a prevalence of 13.1%. Type B was 6.2%, B-like was 1.8%, type C was 3.2%, type D was 0.24%, type G was 0.36%, type H was 0.48%, type CG was 0.12%, O-like was 0.24%, type J was 0.12% and type K was 0.36%, respectively. Conclusion Many kinds of variations can be found in aortic arch branches.MSCTA is a valuable noninvasive imaging method for the diagnosis of aortic arch branches variation. Compared with tranditional autopsy and DSA, MSCTA can noninvasively display the Variation from multiple directions.
