Expression Of Axl In Tissue And Serum Of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer And Its Significance

OBJECTIVE:To examine the expression of Axl in tissue and serum of epithelial ovarian cancer, and its possible relations with the occurrence and progression of epithelial ovarian cancer, to explore its clinical significance.METHODS:â‘ Immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expression of Axl in tissues of15normal ovaries,25benign ovarian epithelial tumors,83primary epithelial ovarian cancers and36metastatic tumor of epithelial ovarian cancers, the expression of Axl was compared between the three different kinds of tissues, and between39metastatic tumor samples and its corresponding primary tumors, relations between Axl expression and the clinicopathological parameters of ovarian cancer was analyzed.â‘¡The method of enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect the concentration of sAxl in serum of22patients of benign ovarian epithelial tumors,27of epithelial ovarian cancers and35healthy females, and the value of sAxl, CA-125and their combination in diagnosing epithelial ovarian cancers was evaluated.RESULTS:â‘ The expression of Axl in epithelial ovarian cancers was higher than that in benign ovarian epithelial tumors and normal ovaries, metastatic samples was higher than its corresponding primary tumors.â‘¡The expression level of Axl in epithelial ovarian cancers was connected with histological grade, FIGO stage, histological type and metastasis of lymph node, while not connected with histological type and menopause.â‘¢The concentration of sAxl in serum of malignant epithelial ovarian tumors was higher than that of benign tumors and normal ovaries; The concentration of sAxl was in some extent connected with the expression level of Axl in tissue of epithelial ovarian cancers, and was not connected with the clinicopathological parameters of ovarian cancer.â‘£When epithelial ovarian cancer was compared with controls of benign tumors, the diagnosis efficiency was at the best when sAxl at the level of52.5ng/ml, the sensitivity was70.4%, the specificity40.9%; when combine with CA-125, the sensitivity was88.9%, the specificity86.4%.CONCLUSIONS:â‘ The higher expression of is correlated with the occurrence, development and the invasion and metastasis of epithelial ovarian cancer. Axl may have taken part in the course of metastasis of epithelial ovarian cancer.â‘¡The concentration of sAxl in serum have its clinical significance in differentiating malignant from benign ovarian tumors.
