Objective:To assess the efficacy and safety of GLP-1receptor agonists on the treatment of Type2Diabetes Mellitus. Methods:to search randomized controlled trials from Springer(2001.10-2011.10), Pubmed (2001.10-2011.10), Embase (2001.10-2011.10), CNKI (2001.10-2011.10), The search was concluded in October2011. to evaluate the quality of randomized controlled trials which are included on the basis of criteria and meta analysis was conducted by the software Stata12.0.Result:ten randomized controlled trials involving3065patients with type2diabetes mellitus. there were1560patients in exenatide therapeutic group, there were1505patients in insulin therapeutic group. the shortest duration of intervention was16weeks and the maximum was52weeks in trials. meta analysis indicated that:exentide was not as effective as insulin in lowering fasting plasm glucose-0.09,95%CI (-1.29,-0.69), but, exenatide was not inferior than insulin in lowering hemoglobin A1C0.05,95%CI (-0.07,0.17). exenatide was more effective than insulin in lowering weight4.55,95%CI (3.97,5.14), and reducing the risk of hypoglycemia0.432,95%CI (0.338,0.551).Conclusion:GLP-1receptor agonists was not as effective as insulin in lowering fasting plasm glucose, but, it was not inferior than insulin in lowering hemoglobin A1C. Hemoglobin A1C is one of the most important criteria to evaluting the efficacy of treatment of T2DM. so they have the equal efficacy in T2DM treatment. GLP-1receptor agonists was more effective in lowering weight and reducing the risk of hypoglycemia, so it is a effective and safe treatment for T2DM...
