Objective The presence of the apolipoprotein E (ApoE) epsilon4allele is adefinite risk factor for the of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In the study,we aim toinvestigate the impact of ApoEε4allele on cognitive profiles and characteristic protonMR spectroscopy (IH MRS) profiles of mild cognitive impairment.Methods23elderly patients met the criteria of mild cognitive impairment(MCI) were enrolled in the study. mini mental state examination (MMSE), andMontreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) were performed on23MCI patients. All ofthe subjects were genotyped for ApoE by the technique of PCR-RELP. Twosinge-voxel sequences (TRl,5000ms, TE30ms) were carried out in the bothhippocampi of23MCI patients.Result (1) Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) and the delayed recall, were significantly worse in the ApoEε4carriers than the noncarriers.(2) NAA/Crratio of the right hippocampi was lower in in the ApoEε4carriers than in the thenoncarriers. There is no obvious difference of Cho/Cr andMI/Cr ratios of the bothhippocampi between the ApoEε4carriers and the noncarriers.(3) The positivecorrelation between the delayed recall scores and NAA/Cr ratios of the bothhippocampi Were found. Conclusions Our research found that the ApoEε4carriers have a cognitivedeficit with memory impaired more seriously. The metabolite changes in hippocampiof the ApoEε4carriers can be examined by1H MRS.
