Objectives:To study the protein expressions of COX-2and PR in breastcarcinomas and to explore their clinicopathological significance; To investigate thepathological bases of mammographic features and the expression of progesteronereceptor(PR).Methods:1.Using Immunohistochemistry SP method to detect the proteinexpressions of COX-2and PR in tumors from60breast carcinomas. Then studyingtheir relationship to clinicopathological factors.2. Mammographic features of60patients were contraposed and studiedcomparatively in correspondence and analysis with samples, pathological changesand PR expression detected with immunohistochemical technique.Results:1. The distribution of COX-2and PR was identical,COX-2is mainlylocated in the cytoplasm of tumor cells and endothelial cells and less in thecytoplasm of inflammatory cells. Positive expressions of PR was observed in thenucleus of the tumor cells.2. Among the60breast carcinoma cases,47cases for COX-2Proteinwere Positive, total Positive rate was78.33%;27cases for PR protein expressionwere positive, total positive rate was45.0%.3. The Positive expression of COX-2Protein were not related toage, tumor size, pathological type and lymph node metastasis (P>0.05) butsignificantly correlated with clinical stage and histological grade (P<0.05). Theexpression of COX-2protein of the group with late clinical stage, high histologicalgrade was respectively higher than the group with early clinical stage and lowhistological grade.4. The protein expressions of PR was not associated with age, tumorsize, pathological type, clinical stage, lymph node metastasis and histological grade (P>0.05).5. The positive expression of PR Protein were not associated withage, tumor size, pathological type, clinical stage, and lymph nodemetastasis(P>0.05),but with histological grade(P<0.05).The expression of PR proteinof the group with high histological grade was higher than the group with lowhistological grade.6. Their were no significant correlations between the positive expressionof COX-2protein and the positive expression of PR protein(P>0.05).Conclusions:1.Through the study, we found that COX-2and PR expressed inbreast cancer it is indicated that they may be involved in carcinogenesis, development procedures of breast carcinoma.2. Protein expression of PR in breast carcinomas suggesting thatbreast cancer is a kind of hormone-dependent tumor, and we can give directions toclinical endocrine treatment in accordance with the receptor content.
