Liquidambar formosana, belonged to the hamamelidaceae and Liquidambar, widely distributed in China, rich in resources, but little research and development. Early studies show that, the leaves of Liquidambar formosana Hance have a variety of pharmacological activity, such as bleeding, pain, treatment, cure dysentery, diarrhea children with neonatal tetanus. Therefore, to study Liquidambar formosana resources has great significance for the development and utilization of medicinal plant resources in china. In this paper, the steam distillation extraction and ultrasonic extraction were used to extract volatile oil from leaves of Liquidambar formosana Hance. Examined the abstraction rate, studied extraction process of ultrasonic extraction, the results showed that, the best combination of conditions:Maple Leaf Powder40mesh sieve, ultrasonic frequency of60KHZ in40min, water vapor distillation3h.Effective medicinal ingredients of volatile oil from Liquidambar formosana Hance leaves were Analysised. By the method of HD to extract volatile oils, using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technique to isolate and identify the chemical constituents of volatile oil, with peak area normalization method to determinate the relative percentage content of each component, the paper comparatively analysised the similarities and differences in different seasons, different ages and species of chemical components of volatile oil from leaves of Liquidambar formosana hance. The results showed that, different seasons, different ages and different species, the chemical constituents and the content of the volatile oil were of great difference. Therefore, in the development of the volatile oil from leaves of Liquidambar formosana Hance, attention must be paid to the above three kinds of influence on the main constituents of the volatile oil and the content, according to the need for the development and utilization.Study on the antimicrobial activity of volatile oil from leaves of Liquidambar formosana Hance, we discovered that, volatile oil to5groups of tested strains had certain inhibition, the inhibition to Bacillus subtilis was strongest, followed by Staphylococcus aureus, but the inhibition to Escherichia coli was weak. Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium can also be better suppressed. In addition, volatile oil from leaves of Liquidambar formosana Hance had good stability to temperature and ultraviolet radiation, and in acidic environment which had strong antimicrobial activities.Volatile oil of Natural plant has good fresh-keeping effect. The volatile oil in the leaves of Liquidambar formosana had preservation effects to the unique fruit loquat form southwest region. The results showed that, volatile oil treatment can effectively inhibit lignification and maintain the edible quality, and6μL/100mL was the suitable concentration.
