The situation of water and soil loss in China is seirious. Water and soil conservation regionalization is one of the important measure to contrl it.At present, regionalization on a national scale has completed, and promulgated the "National Soil and Water Conservation Division (trial).". Divisions of province and below the provincial level administrative units are still in its infancy. This paper took Yunnan province as study area to carry on water and soil conservation regionalization. The data derived from National Water and Soil Conservation Division Site and Yunnan Statistical Yearbook. According to related theories, principles, features and local socio-economic conditions, we chose68indexes as primary indicators, which were about nature, land use, society, economy, and water and soil conservation. The first grade indexes were screened by theoretical analysis and frequency statistics. The final5indexes were mean altitude, soil type, annual active accumulated temperature of≥10℃, annual precipitation and aridity. Then we used spatial overlay to divide preliminarily. And the second grade indexes were screened by three methods, the correlation analysis based on correlation coefficient, the sensitivity analysis based on coefficient of variation and importance analysis based on principal component. After that,32indexes were selected to zone by principal component analysis-system cluster-spatial overlay. Finally, the Yunnan water and soil conservation regionalization was produced through adjusting and combining.The results indicated that:(1) Different scales zoning indexes could be choosn by different methods. The ones in the pater were satisfactory and suitable for spreading.The theoretical analysis and frequency statistics could be applied in the first grade indexes, and the second grade indexes were correctly selected by the three quantitative methods;.(2) Finding the best indexes carried on by anslysis of several aspects could keep the system rational;(3) The regionalization of Yunnan matched the reality. It had considered the administrative boundary and connected to the nation and future regionalizations.This study can pefect the index system establishment of water and soil conservation regionalization and be helpful to divisions of province and below the provincial level administrative units.
