Fern (Pteridium aquilium var.latiusculum) is a perennial herb, mainly grown in tropical,subtropical and temperate regions near the hillside forest, and distributed all over the China.Fern has a very high value in gardening, food, medicine, plant instructions, industry, andagriculture. South Shaanxi Mountains is located in the South slope of Qinling Mountains,belongs to Yangtze River, which has a mild climate, abundant rainfall, four distinct seasons,rich resources of fern plant. Properly development of the wild ferns is of great significancefor the adjustment of mountain agriculture structure, promotion of economic development inrural areas and the protection of endangered plant germplasm resources.The paper, by combining the three methods of survey interviews, literature research andcase studies, carry out a investigation and analyse on the development situation of fernresourse in South Shaanxi Mountains. The result show that there are many problems offern resource development, such as simple production and marketeting mode, backwardtraditional processing technology, weak industrial base, the old ideas, the lack ofcomprehensive utilization. On account of the problems, the paper put forward policyproposals of that to organize the investigation and evaluation of resources, conduce relevantscientific research, establish the base of ferns production and promote development ofprocessing enterprises, which can provide areference for the rapid, steady and sustainabledevelopment of South Shaanxi Mountain characteristic agriculture industry, serving the localeconomy, adjusting and optimizing of industrial structure in rural mountainous areas,reasonable development and utilization of wild plants.
