Leymus chinensis (Trin.), is an important rhizomatous, perennial grass. In naturalconditions, there are two serious issues that low seed yield and soil salinization in theregion. Water and nutrients are the two important factors that affect plant growth andsoil quality. A randomized complete block design with a split plot was used toexamine the optimal regulation time and the optimal regulation amount of Water andNitrogen application to improve the seed yield and the soil quality. The results showed as follows:Seed number per spike, thousand seeds weight and seed yield were significantlyinfluenced by waters and nitrogen applications in April, May and June. Water andNitrogen application has the most significantly effect on the the seed yield in April.Spike number, thousand seeds weight and seed yield were significantly influenced bywaters and nitrogen applications in July, August and September. Water and Nitrogenapplication has the most significantly effect on the the seed yield in July. Waters30kg m-2and nitrogen120kg ha-1has the most significantly improve on the the seedyield.Soil total nitrogen (0~10cm,10~25cm,25~40cm) were significantly improvedby nitrogen applications. But, soil total nitrogen (0~10cm,10~25cm,25~40cm)weren’t significantly influenced by waters. Soil pH (0~10cm,10~25cm) andElectrical conductivity (0~10cm) were significantly reduced by waters in Apirl,Mayand June. Soil pH (0~10cm) and Electrical conductivity (0~10cm) weresignificantly reduced by nitrogen applications in July, August and September. Theresult is better to reduce soil salinization. From the test, in order to improve the seed yield and reduce the soil pH, Electricalconductivity, the optimal regulation methods is waters30kg m-2in April, meanwhile, application nitrogen120kg ha-1in July.
