The plant of Taxus chinensis var. mairei, also named as the Taxus mairei, belongs to the state-protected plants. It is widely distributed almost throughoutChina from Taiwan Province, Nanling Mountains, Yangtze River Basin throughHenan Province north forward to Shaanxi Province till Gansu Province, etc. Thestudy comparatively analyze the fingerprint of branch and leaf of the speciessamples from different locations and the influence factors on the producing oftaxol content for breeding high quality germplasm and providing the scientificbasis for rational and efficient utilization of T. chinensis var. mairei. Theconclusions were as follows:1. The similarity of T. chinensis var. mairei from six locations was calculatedby using the cosine method and correlation coefficient. The results indicated thatexcept of two samples from Niejiashan of Anhui, the similarities of the othersamples were all above0.8, meanwhile constructed the characteristic fingerprint ofT. chinensis var. mairei. The comparative analysis of fingerprints among twelvesamples of T. chinensis var. mairei indicated that twelve common peaks infingerprints of different samples, retention time of common peaks was stable buttheir relative content had a big difference. The characteristic fingerprint of T.chinensis var. mairei was obtained according to fingerprints of twelve samples, which might be used for identification and quality assessment of T. chinensisvar.mairei.2. The analyses based on taxol content of T. chinensis var. mairei showed thatthere was obvious difference among samples from five locations(P<0.05), thecontent of taxol in the samples of Shaanxi and Gansu was obviously higer than thatof Anhui, the content of taxol from Zhouzhi of Shaanxi was the highest with themass ratio of0.00613%. Meanwhile analyzing the correlation between taxolcontent with local climate factor and soil element content, the results showed that taxol content had less negative correlation with the average temperature, rainfall, longitude, soil N, P, Zn content and organic matter; it had less positive correlationwith latitude and soil Cu, Fe, Mn content, but the correlation was not significant.3. SPSS were used to analyze the taxol content differential of Taxus madia andT. chinensis var. mairei, the results showed that taxol content of Taxus madia washigher than that of T. chinensis var. mairei(P<0.05). The taxol content was0.0241%in T. chinensis var. mairei while0.000814%in T. chinensis var. mairei. We also analyzed the taxol content of T. chinensis var. mairei form four locationsin different growing years, and different seasons from Niejia and Hule of Anhui. The content of ever born branches and leaves was higher than that of born inbranches and leaves, with the difference of the contents up to2.7times. Taxolcontent was significant difference in different harvesting seasons(P<0.05), thehighest content was in May.
