This topic based on the existing research, using seven varieties of vegetables, the effectsof seed size and density on seeds’ germination and seedling quality were studied to providethe basis for selecting vegetable seeds and cultivating strong seedlings. The main results were as follows:1. The selected materials (cucumber, water melon, squash, little rape1#,2#, little cabbage1#,2#, tomato1#,2#, hot pepper1#,2#)’ seed size was significantly correlated with1000-seed weight, and the amount of the middle size had the highest percentage.2. Tomato (1#/,2#), hot pepper (1#/,2#) and little rape2#’ s seed density was positivelycorrelated with1000-seed weight, and the grain weight of T3(the biggst density seeds)was significantly more than T1(the smallest density seeds)’ s grain weight.3. Water melon, tomato(1#,2#) and hot pepper (1#,2#)’s seed size was positively correlatedwith each germinative quota, little rape(1#,2#)’s seed size was only positively correlatedwith germinative potential and germinative index, and little cabbage’s seed size waspositively correlated with germinative percentage. Cucumber and squash’s seed size hadno correlation with the germinative quota. The seed size had little effect on thegerminative percentage of each vegetable (except little rape2#, little cabbage2#andcucumber).4. Little rape and little cabbage’s seed density was differently correlated with germinativequotas.5. Each vegetable (except hot pepper1#)’s seed size was positively correlated with theseedling shape index, and their big sized seeds were significantly or outstandingly morethan small sized seedling shape indexes.6. Only hot pepper1#’s seed density was positively correlated with each seedling shapeindex, but the smallest density seeds (T1) of the selected materials had the lowest seedlingshape index. 7. Each specie’s seed size was positively correlated with strong seedling index (except thatthe middle size of little cabbage1#and hot pepper1#had the highest index), and the bigsized strong seedling index of cucumber, little rape(1#,2#), little cabbage2#and tomato1#was outstandingly more than small size’s. Little rape, little cabbage, tomato and hotpepper’s seed density was differently correlated with the strong seedling index.8. Moreover, the effects of seed size on the chlorophy content and root vigor of melons, little rape, little cabbage, tomato and hot pepper were studied. And the seed size waspositively correlated with the chlorophy content of water melon and little rape (1#,2#),but was nothing correlated with the chlorophy content of cucumber, squash and littlecabbage (1#,2#). However, the seed size was positively correlated with the selectedspecies’ root vigor, and the root vigor of big and middle size was significantly more thanthe small sized root vigor.
