Insect pests’damage is key factor to the yield and quality of chestnut. It is important to understand the main insect pests and their damage pattern as well as the management methods to control the insect pests. In this thesis, the author investigated the damage of main insect pests and applied the thiacloprid microcapsule powders in chestnut forest in Lishui. The results are as followed.1. Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu, Dichocrocis punctiferalis Guenee, Curculia davidi, Characama ruficrra Hmpsa and Cryllorhynobites ursulus Roelots are the main insect pests on chestnut causing great damage to the production of chestnut in Lishui.2. Management of D. kuriphilus by thiacloprid. The best period of this pesticide application is early and middle of July in Castanea mollissima forest, and late July in Castanea henryi forest. The doses of pesticide in each hectare of forest were4.5kg,3.0kg and1.5kg. The highest control efficiency of insect pests by each treatment were94.71%,88.1%and78.48%.3. Management of D. punctiferalis, C. davidi and C. ruficrra Hmpsa by thiacloprid. The best period of this pesticide application is middle July in C. mollissima forest, and late July or early August in Castanea henryi forest. The doses of pesticide in each hectare of forest were4.5kg,3.0kg and1.5kg. The highest control efficiency of insect pests by each treatment were80.64%,73.05%and63.86%.4. Management of C. ursulus by thiacloprid. The best period of this pesticide application is early and middle June in C. mollissima forest, and late June in Castanea henryi forest. The doses of pesticide in each hectare of forest were4.5kg,3.0kg and1.5kg. The highest control efficiency of insect pests by each treatment were88.72%,78.11%and65.12%.5. Thiacloprid is an environment-friendly pesticide with long persistence and low price (RMB150-450/hm2) killing several main insect pest. And the efficient powder spraying saved lots of labor and time which is suitable to the application in chestnut forest in mountain area.
