Ecotourism is a tourist hot spots today.Forest Park has become the preferred one for people to ecotourism. Liping National Forest Park, situated in Nanzheng County of Hanzhong, Shaanxi, boasts of fine natural ecological environment and geographic conditions. The park offers rich ecological landscapes, excellent environment, and typical folk customs. It is a charming destination for leisure travel, and has resource conditions and development edges for forest tourism. Forest tourism development protects forest resources and ecological environment, offers positive income and job opportunities, and brings more ecological benefits, social benefits, and economical benefits. It is an important form of forestry sustainable development, and has become the most dynamic part of modern tourism and forestry industry. Therefore, study, assessment and analysis of forest tourism resource based on scientific theories and methods for guidance of tourism resource development and protection has important theoretical and practical implications.The study makes use of various academic theories such as tourism resource science, ecology, geography, environmentology, and landscape aesthetics for the in-depth study of tourism resources of Liping National Forest Park. The author also analyzes the natural geographical environment, social economic environment and forest tourism resources in the methods of data collection, documentation, and field investigation. Thus, a comprehensive and detailed grasp of type, amount, property, quality, size, formation causes, and characteristics of its tourism resources is obtained. The author also carries out a qualitative evaluation of its aesthetic appreciation value, scientific exploration value and historic cultural value in the methods of descriptive inventories. A comprehensive evaluation system is established for the comprehensive quantitative evaluation of its tourism resources in the methods of AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Analysis), comparison and judgment, the specialists’ inquisition, questionnaire, etc. Seven suggestions concerning park development are proposed based on an analysis of evaluation results. The main findings are as follows:1、 According to National Standards of People’s Republic of China:Classification, Investigation and Assessment of Tourism Resources (GB/T18972—2003), tourism resources of Liping National Forest Park can be categorized into8main classes,18subclasses, and44primitive types. It boasts of rich and various resources.2、Characteristics of tourism resources in Liping National Forest Park are:excellent forest environment, unique and rich natural landscape, broad tourist space, convenient transportation, and certain tourism service infrastructure and tourism cooperation, etc.3、The total score of its tourism resource evaluation is4.21(full score:5). The ratio of real evaluation score to full score is84.23%, which shows that its tourism resources have prime quality. Forest landscape resources, mountain sight resources, environmental resources and their uniqueness have outstanding edges. The park enjoys apparent excellent geographical conditions. Its external transportation is relatively convenient, but its cultural tourism resources service facilities and reputation are still weak.Suggestions for development of Liping National Forest Park:(1) Forest tourism development should be based on protection of forest landscape and environmental quality.(2) Science tourism should be enhanced to cultivate people’s sense of environmental responsibility and ecological awareness.(3) Public participation in tourism should be increased to make more people feel happiness.(4) Local cultural connotations should be explored to enrich cultural landscape resources.(5) Financing channels should be broadened to contribute to good financing to speed up park development.(6) Community participation should be promoted to improve local economic growth.(7) Ecological monitoring and scientific study of forest tourism environmental influence should be reinforced.
