Research On Older Cell Phone Design Based On User Experience

The demand of the elderly products especially communication products is increasing with the number of the older people exploded in recent years. While the current design situation of communication products for elderly still leave much to be desired.This study focused on the older user and explored their needs by user behavior analysis, storytelling, delphi interviews and other user-experience methods, then put forward a concept design scheme at the end. This thesis firstly studied the features and the design elements of the older mobile phones then proposed the goals of future older cell phones. Secondly, we came up with a hierarchical user experience research method for older cell phones after a comparison of some of the user experience methods. Through user behavior analysis, delphi interviews and the emotional interview, the study formed a user research pattern from user to designer and then back to the user. In this study, we applied user behavior analysis and questionnaire survey to accomplish quantitative dates. The delphi interviews and emotional talk accomplished qualitative dates. The outcome of the study will help designers rethink what the user needs form user experience and interaction aspects.Finally, we applied the results of the user experience design to the design practice. Through the establishment of a user role and life scene description, the demand for older users communication solutions are put forward. By establishing an older communication platform system, the possibility of solutions which can meet various requirements of the elderly were discussed.This study not only provided a method about older mobile phone design but also a new design direction about modern older products. The older users were fully involved in the designing process. The development of older products was promoted from both hardware side and software side. It definitely will push the aged industry into a higher level.
