With the increase of traffic volume and vehicle axle load in our country, the early disruption of asphalt is becoming more and more serious, including pavement cracking which is the main form of damage. In the northern region, ice-split effect is one of the phenomenon that can produce large influence on asphalt pavement. Therefore it is necessary to study the cracking behavior of asphalt pavement considering the ice-split effect.First of all, the computational formula of stress intensity factor which considering ice-split effect will be derived based on the related theory of linear elastic fracture mechanics, and corrected with the finite element method.Secondly, the2D pavement structure model with cracking was built by utilizing ABAQUS and the influence factors considering the effect of ice-split of asphalt pavement are analyzed. The results indicate that (1) the stress intensity factor increases with the crack width increases, and bigger crack width can result in the crack propagation more rapidly under the ice-split effect; but the crack length has little effect on the intensity factor;(2) the results of the five aspects (the horizontal stress and vertical stress, shear stress, major principal stress, stress intensity factor) indicate that the pavement crack under ice-split effect’extension under asymmetric load was bigger than under symmetrical load. In addition, the cracks on the asphalt pavement speeded up the expansion under the condition of the pavement load overload.(3) The stress intensity factor was decreased with the increase of temperature difference under different temperature, and only a small temperature difference can cause bigger effect to the pavement cracks under the ice-split effect.Last but not least, according to the analysis of the correlation, and collecting with the asphalt pavement crack treatment methods, then suggest the treatment methods of asphalt crack considering the ice-split effect.
