| The temporal and spatial distribution of water resources in China is quite uneven. In general, the amount of water resources in the south is much larger than that in the north. Due to the climate change, there are increasingly numbers of extreme weather events occurring in China. Thus, the connection of rivers and lakes is considered as a solution to increase the water supply, improve the water ecologic conditions, and it has attracted more and more attention. Even though there is no doubt that the connection of rivers and lakes is able to rechieve the goals, there is still no research about the quantative analysis about the connection. Therefore, in this paper, the improvement of water carrying capacity resulted by the connection is calculated in details.Tai’an city is a well-known tourism city in China, which indicates that the water eco-system is quite cruial for the development of the city. The problem of the uneven distribution of water resources in Tai’an is serious as well. According to the economic development planning, the current amount of water resources in Tai’an cannot meet the water demand in the coming decade. As a result, the connection of rivers and lakes has been planned to improve the water carrying capacity. In this paper, the details about the improvement of water carrying capacity in Tai’an is calculated and analysed.The main results and conclusions are listed as following:(1) State the basic conception and the necessarity of the connection of rivers and lakes. The connection is among the current waters with the link of water conservancy projects. The purposes of the connection are increasing the water supply, improving the local ecological environmental condition, and enhancing the water carrying capacity in the end. The connection of rivers and lakes is consisted of three kinds of basic elements, which are points, lines, and surfaces. The connection can be divided into two categories based on its relationship with local rivers, one is recovery connection and the other is newly-built connection. Moreover, the connection can be divided into four categories based on the functions, which are ecological, water supply, flood protection, and comprehensive respectively. According to the analysis, the carrying capacity can be improved due to the connection by means of increasing the water supply, improving the water quanlity and improving the efficiency of water plants. (2) State the therotical connotation and influence factors of water carrying capacity. In this paper, water carrying capacity is defined as the ecological condition, population and the economic level that water resources can support to, subject to the science technology and the principle of sustainable development. Indicators that influence the water carrying capacity are the condition of water resources, science and technology, the economic level, the ecological condition, policy, market, etc.(3) A evaluation model based on the connection of rivers and lakes is built in this paper to calculate the water carrying capacity, especially the influence of connection of lakes ang rivers on the water carrying capacity. The different water supply and water carrying capacity before and after the connection are calculated as well.(4) Take Tai’an city as a case to analyze the variation of water carrying capacity before and after the constrction of connections among lakes and rivers. There are four modes that are preset to calculate the water carrying capacity of Tai’an city in2015and2020. The results show that local water supply increase significantly because of the connection of rivers and lakes. Among all the counties, water supply in Taishan Distrcit witnesses a largest increase, up to151%, which highly improves the water carrying capacity in the area, and solves the problem of water shortage in the area. Moreover, further countermeasures are illustrated to improve the water carrying capacity. |
