Henan Province has a long history and rich culture. There are numerous historic city, town and village in Henan, which is the true portrayal of Henan traditional culture, folk customs, architectural art, reflecting the history, culture and social development. These are the ancestors left us a precious legacy. Over the past20-30years, with the rapid development of urbanization and new rural construction, the historical context and cultural heritage of historical and cultural town in Henan was major damage, the protection and development of the historical and cultural towns increasingly acute contradictions. How to deal with the relationship between protection and development, and to realize the modernization of historical and cultural towns and villages, and to promote the coordinated development of protection and construction, has become an urgent issue.In recent years, the country is making great efforts to change this situation, and has invested heavily. In this context, the protection of historical towns and villages in Jia County of Henan Province have become more widely. Since2011, the author participated in the Jia County historical and cultural towns protection planning, and have researched Zhongtou Town, Linfeng Village, zhangdian Village, Houdian Village, Guangkuotiandi, Lidukou Village and other villages and towns, and complete five historic villages and towns conservation planning. This article through the problems in practice and assessment, explores the historical and cultural towns and villages conservation status and the difficulties faced, by urban planning, architecture, urban geography, urban economics and other disciplines results. From the perspective of historical features and value, protection and development mode, and introduced the darn concept into the protection of historical and cultural towns and villages.
