| Because of the exploitation of the natural resources and the rise of the industry, the city’s functions, such as financial, trade, culture and service, obtain a good development. However, some problems gradually become evident with the unprecedented development, for example, the uneven population distribution in the different area of the city, the expanding difference of public service level between urban and rural, the traffic congestion in the city’s center, the limited resident trip in the urban area with low population density, the few selection of travel, the decrease of natural resources and the social resources, the finite road carrying capacity, and the prominent air-pollution and noise. Due to the difference between the theory expectation and the actual transportation characteristics of the area with low population density in the process of rural-urban integration and the development of city, it is necessary to study the practical problems on the basic of combining the travel characteristics and travel demand of the residents in the area with low population density, and it is important to seek a new public transportation to solve the actual problems in the region rather than to provide a public transportation system for difference areas simply. In this paper, we study the actual cases of Western countries, investigate the service characteristics of the Demand Responsive Transport System (DRTS), the characteristics of the region which is suitable for DRTS and the demand characteristics of residents travel, and put forward the definition of the remote areas of a city. According to the analogy and correlation analysis method, we put forward a suitable bus operation mode and an elastic route scheme with the needs of passengers satisfied. In addition, we made a quantitative and qualitative benefit evaluation which includes economic feasibility, convenience, safety, comfort, reliability and environmental protection. In the end, taking the Yunfu city in Guangdong province as an example, we discuss feasibility and effective form about the development of DRTS.Compared with the traditional transit mode, the transit mode combining the DRTS and the actual situation of remote region in city was not only good for integrating idle vehicle and resource and reducing the travel cost of passenger, but also good for reducing the operating costs. According to the evaluation, the application of the DRTS theory in the remote area of a city can improve the imbalance of employees and decrease of the service quality. In addition, it also put forward a new thought for the integration of urban and rural passenger traffic in the urbanization. |
