With the continuous development of China’s economy and people’s needs improved day by day, many buildings can not meet the people’s growing material and cultural needs on the use of the area and function. In this context, adding layers to the existing buildings can not only meet people’s needs, but also reduce the unnecessary waste of resources.This paper designs the adding layers’ building in order to meet the owner’s requirement of expanding the use of the area and function.The department store was designed in2002, and built in2003. It was consisted of the main three, four layers of local and bottom of the two-story steel frame structure. H-shaped steel beams were applied. Floor panel adopted the steel deck composite floor and the roof adopted site composite glass cotton color steel sandwich panels. The department store owned the storey of5.5m. and the total construction area of19876m2.According to owner’s requirement, we intent to add the layers to five layers, so as to connect to the hotel resident in north side of the supermarket, and then the department store will become the podium building of he hotel, which increases the scale of operation of the Hotel. After the adding layers, we re-layouted of the supermarket, at the same time, due to the requirement of the hotel, we set the roof the supermarket to the tennis court. According to owner’s requirement, we intent to increase three layers after removal of the third floor of portal frame and the storey is4.5m.In this paper, the original structure is modeled based on the original drawings on the use of PKPM, finding the area where don’t meet the code, and then more attention will be paid in the next step of reinforcement work. Afterwards, we will add the layers and reinforce the columns according to the owners of the needs, create the structural model by PKPM and ETABS, and analyze the overall of the structures under the seismic loads. Because the structure doesn’t meet the code for seismic design of buildings on the side of regular structure, belonging to the irregular structure on the lateral stiffness. According to the code, the time history analysis is needed to made as supplement under the seismic loads, so we do, finding that the structure can still meet the relevant provisions of the specification on the performance requirements of the safety. Finally, large-scale interchangeable finite element software ABAQUS is used to simulate the steel column after reinforced. Axial force, shear force and moment picked up from the result of PKPM, is applied on the top of the column. And we focus on the stress of the reinforced steel columns, provide better recommendations for the reinforcement design.
