BLDC motor has lots of advantages, such as simple structure, high power density, reliable operation, and so on, which makes it widely used in the wheel motor drivingsystems in new energy vehicles. But, there also exists some problems such as severetemperature rise which is more complex especially for wheel motors. Simulating the lossand temperature distribution of the motor accurately is very important when solving theproblem of severe temperature rise in the motor. The paper selected the BLDC wheelmotor and conducted tests and analysis by combining tests and FEA.To meet the needs of verifying the results of FEA, the paper used the motor benchesdesigned by ourselves to do several tests from magnetic parameters to loss and then to thetemperature. The accuracy of the calculation of loss is decided by the simulation of theelectric-magnetic field. The paper built2D model of the motor by FEA software, analyzedthe electric-magnetic-force parameters, and verified some of them.Since the loss is the master heat source of the motor temperature rise, calculating theloss accurately and analyzing the law of the loss production is quite necessary. The papersimulated the loss of the motor by FEA, and verified the results by comparing the losswith those got by tests. Therefore, as the wheel motor I selected, the paper also analyzedthe loss of the motor when the operating conditions changed, how the core loss variedwhen the stator changed, and drew some meaningful conclusions.Currently, for most researches on temperature distribution of the motor, they exertedthe loss of the motor on the parts which produced heat averagely, which would lead to theinaccuracy of the simulation of the temperature distribution of the motor. Aimed at this, the paper conducted the coupled simulation by combining the magnetic FEA software andANSYS Workbench, got the temperature distribution of the motor, and analyzed the law of it. Finally, the paper verified the accuracy of the simulation by temperature test.Due to some factors, such as the inaccuracy of part parameters the simulation hasused, the certain assumptions when simulating the temperature of the motor, in the future,it is necessary to do further research on how to acquire the more accurate parameters andto build more accurate models.
